Cimetiere du Montparnasse

Montparnasse cemetery, in the 14th arrondissement, was opened in 1824 and is the second largest in Paris (after the Pere Lachaise). With 35,000 plots, it is the resting place for many significant figures including politicians, philosophers, artists, actors and writers. Some famous residents include Charles Baudelaire, Guy de Maupassant, Jean Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir and Charlies Garnier. Also located within the cemetery is an old windmill, in the western corner, which dates from the 14th or 15th century, and is one of the last surviving windmills in Paris. This photo was taken from the nearby Montparnasse Tower, which gives a birds-eye view of Paris.

Parc Montsouris

Parc Montsouris in the 14th arrondissement is another wonderful green space in Paris. Entirely manmade, it is situated on a former quarry, and a network of mining tunnels which were filled with human skeletons (as part of the Paris catacombs). Before construction of the park began, 800 skeletons had to be removed from the tunnels.
