A Walking Guide to the 1st Arrondissement of Paris - Louvre

The 1st arrondissement is referred to as le premier (the first), or the Louvre and is the most historical part of Paris. This is where the Parisi tribe originally settled in Paris in about 250 BC. It later formed the heart of the ancient Lutetia, conquered by the Romans in 52 BC, and was where the Kings and Queens of France lived. While it is the least populated and one of the smallest arrondissements, it is one of the must-see areas in Paris. Mainly located on the right bank of the River Seine (except for the western end of the Île de la Cité), it comprises four districts: Place Vendôme, Palais Royal, Halles and Saint Germain l’Auxerrois.
